Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is a water-soluble vitamin that is involved in many vital physiological processes, especially in the functioning of the nervous system, the immune system and hormonal balance. It plays a key role in amino acid metabolism, the synthesis of neurotransmitters (e.g. serotonin, dopamine) and the production of hemoglobin.
Why is it important for the thyroid?
Supporting hormonal balance: vitamin B6 contributes to hormonal regulation, which is key to the proper functioning of the thyroid gland, especially in women.
Anti-inflammatory effect: Vitamin B6 can reduce inflammatory markers, which are often elevated in hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's).
Nervous system support: B6 plays a role in maintaining the balance of stress hormones – this is especially important for relieving anxiety and fatigue often present in thyroid conditions.
Reduces fatigue: contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and reduces fatigue - a common complaint in hypothyroidism.
Deficiency symptoms may include:
chronic fatigue
irritability, mood swings
insomnia
dermatitis, chapped lips
decreased immunity
