L-tryptophan
L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid, meaning our body cannot produce it and must therefore be consumed through food or as a dietary supplement. It plays an important role in several biological processes:
Serotonin precursor : the body converts tryptophan into serotonin via 5-HTP, which plays a key role in regulating mood, sleep, and well-being.
Melatonin production : melatonin is produced from serotonin, which is responsible for regulating the sleep-wake cycle.
Niacin (vitamin B3) synthesis : the body can also produce niacin from tryptophan under certain conditions.
Natural sources : turkey, chicken, fish, eggs, milk and dairy products, cheese, nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, bananas, oats, chickpeas.
